After a career at sea rising to the rank of master mariner, Martyn transferred ashore and worked in ship operations, fleet management and chartering, where he qualified as a shipbroker.
In 1996 Martyn moved into third party ship liability insurance for a major London based insurer which introduced him to cost effective dispute resolution procedures .
Cost and budget control is a priority for effective claims handling and strong interpersonal were used at every opportunity to find an early claim resolution.
In 2011, Martyn moved to a London based international law firm and specialised in marine casualty investigation.
In 2016 Martyn qualified as a mediator and gained accreditation with the Civil Mediator Council, (CMC), and a member of the Society of Mediators (SOM).
Since 2016, Martyn has mediated commercial, civil and community disputes , the latter working pro bono for Tower Hamlets Mediation Project.
Awarded UK Civil Mediation Lawyer of the Year 2023.
Awarded Best Dispute Resolution Facilitator 2024 (East of England).
In March 2024 commenced Tendring Community Mediation Service.
